Nursing History, Medical history, doctors history, hospital building history

Welcome to the Website of the Australian Country Hospital Heritage Association Inc.

Our role is to collect, preserve, maintain and display significant objects, equipment, memorabilia, oral histories and photographs pertaining to the history of health care in country hospitals, especially in Central Queensland.  Our display is located at the Rockhampton City Council owned Heritage Village, an active museum situated in 18 hectares of native bushland on the Bruce Highway.  The Village represents a unique collection of original buildings, homesteads and businesses representing the 100 year period from the mid-1850’s.  Our collection is now permanently housed in the Country Hospital Museum which was officially opened on 21 November 2009. The building was formerly the Mt Morgan Hospital nurses' quarters which has been relocated to the Heritage Village and fully refurbished.

While our main interest is in displaying our collection at the Village, we have prepared this website to give you an overview of the wealth of material which has been collected over more than 30 years. To learn more about the Association and our Collection, just browse our website by clicking on each of the links at the top of this page.

We also invite you to join our Association , or simply visit our collection centre at the Village which is located on the eastern side of the Bruce Highway just north of Rockhampton.

In the immediate future, our Museum will be open to the public during the Heritage Village Craft & Hobby Markets on 14 March 2010. It will open daily as part of the Heritage Village from April 2010.
